Ross woke to the sound of water running in the bathroom. Sally came into the room, wearing her own clothes. Apparently, she’d gone looking for them in the dryer. Her hair was pulled back and damp strands framed her face. His chest expanded with pride. She had the looked of a woman recently fulfilled.

“You’re awake.”

He frowned as she didn’t meet his eyes. He didn’t want any uncomfortable moments between them. He smiled. “I am, but I missed you when I woke.”

She blinked. “You did?”

“I did.” Ross sat up. “You could’ve woken me. I would’ve liked that.”

Sally gave him a perplexed look. “Really?”

They watched each other for a moment. What was she thinking? Had he said something wrong? “Yeah. Who wouldn’t want you beside them?”

The worried look across her features disappeared, then she smiled. “Thank you. That’s not what I’m used to. My ex-husband didn’t like for me to linger in bed. He always wanted me to get up and get a shower.”

Ross wanted to hit something. “Look at me, Sally.”

She did.

Hopefully she could see the sincerity in his eyes. “You’re welcome to stay in bed with me as long as you want or you’re free to leave whenever you want. It’s up to you. I want you to understand this next part. It’s very important that you do.” He paused. “I promise I’m nothing like your ex-husband. I don’t, nor will I ever, control your actions. You can always trust me, and I’ll always be honest with you. Inside and outside of bed.”

“Oh.”

“Yes, oh. And by the way, right now, I’d like to have your sweet lips on mine but if that isn’t what you want, then that’s fine.”

Her eyes opened and closed a couple of times before a smile came to her lips. She came to him. Placing her hands on his shoulders, she leaned down. Her kiss was hot and suggestive, setting him on fire again. When he tugged her toward the mattress, she stepped away.

Looking down at him, she teased, “Hey, I need some food if I’m going to keep up with you.”

“Okay, let me get a shower and I’ll take you out to eat.” Ross flipped the sheet back. He didn’t miss the sparkle of interest in her eyes as she looked at him.

“Uh...you don’t have to do that. I’ll see what I can find in the kitchen.” She stepped toward the door.

Ross headed toward the bathroom, chuckling. “Good luck with that.”

It wasn’t until the water was running over him that he realized that he’d been completely naked in front of another person without being self-conscious. And Sally’s look had been an admiring one. What miracle had she performed on him?

Done with his shower, he found Sally busy in the kitchen. “I see you found something. It smells wonderful.” He walked up behind her, giving her a kiss on the neck. “What’re you fixing?”

“I found enough for an omelet and some toast. That work for you?”

“It does. As usual, I’m impressed. Your cooking is one of the many things I like about you.
